STRETCH YOUR USAGE FURTHER… MAKE IT LAST!
Below are some tips and suggestions to help you keep your Usage at a minimum. Please note: Storage is cumulative, not just what's added in the current month (Storage = original source files + archives). Delivery (live and on-demand) resets itself each month.
Understanding Usage & Pricing:
On the Dashboard within your account there is a Usage Meter that shows the 3 types of usage you can have; storage of files, delivery of those files to the audience, and live broadcasting. (Note: the Usage meters can take between 24 - 48 hours to update after files are removed.)
- if your Delivery is high, lowering your bit rate will slow down the rate of consumption!
- if your Storage is high, you can clear Source Files, and/or remove older Episodes.
TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR LOWERING YOUR USAGE
Make sure that you clear your original Source Files. They can be deleted from your Sermon Studio > Archive > Episode page > Source Files section (bottom of the Episode page).
NOTE: You can have your Studio automatically delete Media Bank > Source Files... from within your Sermon Studio go to Account > Studio Settings.
BACKUPS? If you want to download a copy of your Archived media, please use your RSS/Podcast feed.
2a. You can delete some of the older files to stay under the free account allotment. To delete files on your account from your Sermon Studio > Episode Archive > Click on the Red X to delete the file.
2b. Or, you can delete in bulk with batch process:
Whether you are Live Streaming, or just Archiving your on-demand content (audio or video), the BIT RATE of your media is the most important factor when determining your Usage / rate of consumption. For free accounts, if you are not already, you might want to consider lowering your audio bit rate to 64 or 32 Kbps within the Transcoding Profile Template (within the Add Files / Uploader). The audio may not sound quite as clear, but it will definitely save you space. You would need to re-upload any existing audio to have them transcoded at this new / lower bit rate.
Sample Bit Rate and resulting file size:
32kbps 1 hour = 14.4 MB
64kbps 1 hour = 28.8 MB
96kbps 1 hour = 43.2 MB
128kbps 1 hour = 57.6 MB
192kbps 1 hour = 86.4 MB

When someone subscribes to your Podcast Feed they can download all of the Media contained therein. Limiting the number of Episodes in your feed at any one time will help control your podcast-based Delivery / Usage.
If you would like to implement this solution, setup a new Dynamic Playlist that will only pull in the most recent 10 (for example) Episodes from your Main Playlist. Then submit this new Dynamic/limited Feed to iTunes.
1.ADD NEW PLAYLIST... TITLE IT "PODCAST"
2. SETTINGS > PLAYLIST TYPE = DYNAMIC
3. DYNAMIC SETTINGS > SELECT: a) THE SOURCE PLAYLIST, b) DYNAMIC PLAYLIST TYPE = RECENT "X" EPISODES, c) "X" VARIABLE (number of episodes)
4. COPY YOUR DYNAMIC PLAYLIST URL AND SUBMIT IT TO ITUNES / PROVIDE IT TO YOUR AUDIENCE
NOTE: If you already have a feed from your Sermon Studio in use, you will want to redirect that existing feed to this new dynamic / limited feed. Copy the new Dynamic Playlist feed's URL, then go to the old Playlist within your Studio and redirect it to the new URL.
From the Playlist > PODCAST/RSS Feeds section of the old feed...
