TUTORIAL – WIRECAST
WIRECAST LIVE STREAM ENCODING SOFTWARE (MAC & WIN PC)
- PDF Tutorial on setting up and streaming with Wirecast - click here.
The example above shows two stream names, one for each bit rate. Most often sending one bit rate / stream (at approximately 1000 kbit/s) is sufficient, and will help simplify your setup.
Stream Settings - VERY Important:
- H.264 (not VP6 or x.264)
- BASELINE (not MAIN)
- Key frame every 240
- Audio in AAC at 44,100 Hz
NOTE: If you are just looking to send us your live stream(s) directly from your camera or switcher; OBS is a simple, free, and effective alternative (more info). Wirecast brings a lot of additional functionality and production quality to your broadcast (multi-device switching, lower 3rds titling, etc...), if desired. However, Wirecast is not free, and a little more complex.
IMPORTANT: For multi bit rate streaming, always arrange streams from highest bit rate (on top) to lowest, within your encoder.
1. BUILDING YOUR WIRECAST STREAM NAMES
This step only needs to be one once, we recommend you use the SAME Master Live Episode for every broadcast. You can then simply Publish to a new Episode (if you Archive your broadcasts following the event). If you change Episodes, you need to make sure your Stream Name (that you put into Wirecast) reflects the specific Episode ID#.
NOTE: The only thing that changes between Episodes, if you are using the same Broadcast Settings, is the Episode's ID# within the Stream Name.
Sample Stream Name:
Up to 3 streams can be created for multi-bit streaming, if desired. Set the Video bit-rate, Audio bit-rate, Dimensions, and Frame Rate for each. As you create the stream(s) you will see the corresponding Wirecast Stream Name appear below. (This is what you will “copy & paste” into Wirecast > Broadcast Settings > Stream.)
2. ADDING THE STREAM NAME(s) TO WIRECAST
You will then create your Encoder Preset(s) within Wirecast (Wirecast > Broadcast > Broadcast/Output Settings).
Select the ENCODER PRESET within Wirecast's > Broadcast / Output Settings. Then, within the DESTINATION below, select SERMON.NET. Copy & paste the SERVER ADDRESS and corresponding STREAM NAME(s), from Studio into Wirecast. Your Server Address is always the same. The Stream Name will change with every new Episode (to match the Episode's ID#).
REMINDER: For Adaptive bit-rate streaming, it is important that the Stream Name matches the corresponding Encoder Preset, and that your order your Streams from High > Low with High on TOP of the list.
